5 Marketing Ideas to Try Before 2023 Ends

Everyone always talks about starting the new year with a bang, but what if we used the end of THIS year to gear up for success in the coming year? Rather than waiting for the clock to strike midnight on New Year's Eve, why not utilize these last six weeks of 2023 to experiment with fresh marketing ideas and gather some data to shape your 2024 marketing strategy?

To help you make the most of this year, I am recommending a few quick and easy marketing ideas that I've personally tested and used successfully in my own business. I can vouch for their effectiveness. Best of all, they're completely FREE and won't require a lot of work on your part to implement.

Let's dive into these trending marketing ideas that you absolutely must try before 2023 is over.

#1 Use Automated Messages on Facebook and Instagram to Convert Followers to Email Subscribers

In this age of instant gratification, consumers are now reaching out to us via Instant Messenger on social media platforms versus going to our website or calling us. Consumers are also expecting us to be available 24/7. Enter marketing idea #1, automated responses, also known as chat funnels or chatbots. In just this year alone we’ve seen chat funnel use increase exponentially – fueled primarily by large brands, but your smaller business can take advantage of chat funnels too.

Platforms like Meta Business Suite offer a seamless way to manage automated messages for your business's messages across Facebook and Instagram. Or, you can use a third-party, meta-approved app like Manychat to simplify the chat funnel set-up. Either option is free to get started and experiment.

To leverage this tactic effectively though, be sure to craft automated response funnels that eventually prompt followers to share their email addresses, converting them into valuable leads.

For example, suppose you offer a complimentary guide as a promotional tool for your business. Instead of simply sharing the link through automated messages, a more effective approach is to initiate a conversation on messenger, building a connection before politely requesting their email address to deliver the guide. This method not only enhances engagement but also results in the acquisition of a valuable new email subscriber. The subtle shift in strategy can significantly contribute to the growth of your audience and strengthen your online presence.

#2 Send Out a Weekly Email Newsletter

In the era of social media algorithms and limited online attention spans, email has staged a powerful comeback as a reliable means of communication. Emails deliver curated content directly to your subscribers' inboxes, providing a consistent touchpoint to nurture your audience.

The resurgence of email newsletters has been driven by the desire for brands to create a more personalized and meaningful connection with their audiences to complement social media interactions. Email marketing not only cuts through the noise of social media but also fosters a sense of exclusivity, allowing you to showcase your brand personality and values consistently. If you are struggling to build a strong list of email subscribers, you need a lead magnet. You can read more about lead magnets and why you need one in our blog titled, “Why Your Website Needs a Downloadable Lead Magnet”.

#3 Share One Minute of Your Life Every Day on Social Media

Authenticity and transparency are paramount in today's marketing landscape. By sharing one minute of your life every day on social media you are forced to embrace the power of genuine, unscripted content. This tactic humanizes your brand, builds trust and creates emotional connections with your audience.

While it might seem trivial, people are inherently curious. They want to know about you, your life, and even what you eat for breakfast. When you share more about your life, you become more comfortable with it. Set boundaries, but letting people in helps them visualize the process or the "why" behind what you do.

Here are some examples of how you can easily post 60 seconds a day:

  • Instagram Stories: Post a series of short video clips on your Instagram Stories, capturing snippets of your day, behind-the-scenes moments, or quick updates.

  • Tutorial Reel on Instagram: Share a one-minute tutorial or quick how-to video on Instagram Reels. This can showcase your skills, offer valuable tips, or provide a glimpse into your expertise.

  • Facebook Status Update: Use Facebook to share a brief video status update. This could be a personal reflection, a shoutout to your followers, or a quick overview of what you're currently working on

#4 Repurpose Your Online Content

Creating diverse and platform-specific content is crucial, but it's not always necessary to start from scratch. The trend of content repurposing has gained momentum as businesses seek to maximize their content's reach and impact without the need for constant creation.

Ask yourself, are you truly getting enough out of the content you’re already creating? It’s a common oversight. Let’s break free from the hamster wheel of content creation and start repurposing with intention.

Here's how:

  • Repurpose a blog post into five different IG posts. Think of it as a five-paragraph essay, each with a main point or idea that can become its own post. Use this copy for a carousel or a caption.

  • Take your Instagram reel and post it on TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Use it for a paid ad or a pin on Pinterest.

  • Write an IG caption and then splice it up into threads or tweets. Use it as copy in your email newsletter or beyond.

The goal is to think thoughtfully before you create something. Ask yourself: where can I use this, how can I get the most mileage out of one piece of content, and what should I consider before creating it?

#5  Get User-Generated Content (UGC)

In the age of social proof, nothing speaks louder than the voice of a happy customer. The trend of encouraging User-Generated Content (UGC) has become a powerful marketing tool in 2023, as businesses grab onto the authentic experiences and testimonials of their customers.

Encourage customers to create content in various ways:

  • Use branded hashtags (for example #yourcompanyname) to make it easy for customers to tag their posts related to your business.

  • Reward loyal customers for creating and sharing content about your business in the form of discounts, exclusive access, or special recognition.

  • Conduct a follow-up survey after your customer has had a chance to enjoy your product/service/offer and ask for feedback.

  • Reach out personally as the founder/CEO and ask about what it was like to work with you. Get permission to use their story.

There you have it! Five marketing tactics that could make a significant impact on your business before we bid farewell to 2023. Pick one or implement them all. After all, you won't know how they impact your business until you try.
